Weapon Charges

I've been looking into the crafting system a little, and the devs have made mention of "additives" or extra materials used to increase stats/strength of crafted items. This got me thinking about something that very much is a part of the Elder Scrolls, albeit a subtle way: weapon charges for enchantments (you have x number of strikes where the enchantment on the weapon applies, after all these are used up the enchantment no longer works until the weapon is recharged). Knowing that this is an MMO, personally I doubt something like this will be included in game.

However, really anything is possible, and there may be some form of charges in game. Anybody wanna weigh in? Should weapon charges be included, as they have in the last couple TES games? Or would Tamriel be better off without them?

I don't think we know what soul gems are for yet, but I'm definitely not against charging enchanted weapons. It's always been part of TES games and I think it'd be cool to have to consciously gather whatever resource would charge them and have them on hand.

It would definitely add to the whole 'strategic warfare' thing ZOS has been pushing. You carry around your main weapon and then if you really get into a spot of trouble or something you pull out a random enchanted weapon for that extra edge.

I don't have a problem with them including a charge system for enchanted items. However, if they are going to make it just like the ES games, then I think they should definitely have a standard amount of charges and make them pretty high. I don't think that the same system as the ES games would work for a MMO setting due to how many uses a weapon will get in dungeons with group content. You would have to have a crap load of gems to charge them. They could of course do away with charges and have a much more in depth system of how powerful the enchantments are and the combos that can be put on them for a variety of item to be created.

Well I can see it where like in Skyrim, you use a soul gem to enchant an item. The higher your skill and the more powerful/full the soul gem is the stronger the enchantment.

Inventory space seems to always be at a premium in MMO games, so I don't know that people will want to have to carry that extra weapon. If you think about it, most people will already be carrying several weapons for dealing with ranged/melee combat. For example: warrior using 1 handed sword and shield, with a bow for ranged damage. Now if he has an extra sword and/or bow, then that is 4 or 5 weapons/shields that he is carrying. Of course, it also depends on if inventory is slot based or weight based, as past ES games have been weight based, but many MMOs are slot based. If it is weight based, and your character uses very light weapons, like daggers, then it would be easy to carry a couple of extras. If you use 2 handed hammers, then it is not very feasible to carry 2 of the same type of weapon. If it is slot based, then someone using a 2 handed weapon versus someone who dual wields would find it easier to carry an extra weapon.

It will be slot based, this is an MMO so forcing people to put points into stamina just to hold all their belongings wouldn't make sense or be very fair.

Hmm hadn't thought of that. Good point. Then again I guess it wouldn't be like the weapon breaks after the charge depletes.

We actually do know

- Recharging weapons
- Resurrecting players
- Crafting component

Filling them is in ES fashion, you equip them in potion slot, fire off at NPC and if he dies within 5sec its filled

What I want to know is can I use black soul gems to capture the souls of the pvp players I kill, then I hope the name of the gem changes to the name of the player I killed, then I will have a room in my house just for my souls... muahahahahaha! lol

Do we know if there will be one soul gem for all, or multiple levels of soul gems that fill up depending on the level of the thing you killed?

No info on that, but my guess is there will be different qualities gems and souls, as there always have been in ES games

So filling weapons: does this mean weapon enchantments get used up or is it meant as a crafting material for enchanting?

Molag takes everyone's soul in the beginning before we start questing, so I doubt it.
