IMO A good assassin has to have the sneak ability and be quick so if your melee you need to get that blade in and kill that person and escape before your found out this can be easier with range given your ability to move and cover a distance quickly and hide while the targets allies look for you also giving you another shot to maybe take out another target also I think Alchemy can play a major part in the role of assassin poisons can drop an enemy quickly this can also be said about a weapon-smith a strong weapon is a must as an assassin you want a one shot kill that's what makes an assassin IMO

Killing is something we Bosmer's do well a snap of a twig or the crunching of leaves can alert your prey and once alerted your job becomes that much harder make your first shot count and your job will be easy

Well the key to being an assassin (IMO) isn't anything to do with the blade, or anything to do with the way the person is killed. As long as evidence is destroyed (hidden bodies) (Picked up weapons) and you can make a quick escape, (sneak factors into this greatly like Simo said) then you should be fine. The reason is cause an assassin isnt supposed to defeat a team, So as long as that one person is dropped and nobody knows about it, then you're good.

Well sneak will have to be your priority. You'll also want to get a decent one-handed skill. I'd personally use light-armour as there will be points where sneaking simply isn't an option. You could use a bow for back-up if you need to kill foes at a range when there simply is no stealth route. I would also recommend alchemy but the other four are far more important. Smithing and Enchanting are optional but make sure you have very good weapons with absorb health/fire damage/frost damage or maybe even soul trap. You could also dabble a bit into Illusion magic to further your sneaking prowess and to disorientate your enemies but that will mean you will also need to focus on your magicka.

Burst damage and impairs. Get the first hit, kill with the first hit, or stop the target's ability to retaliate and escape.
Kinda early to get any more specific, I'd imagine.

Sneak, awareness and the positioning in which you approach your target. Some mmorpg's give Assassins special skills that only work from behind the victim or laterally when you are to their side. Some skills only activate when you are invisible. All this emphasizes that your approach to the mark is essential.

Observation and surprise attacks from above - tree limbs, rooftops - and unseen approaches - alleyways - bushes - are also effective. Your element of SURPRISE is your greatest Assassin weapon. And your effective swift blade or arrow (poisoned?) and then your invisible retreat back into the nothingness of shadow ... all marks of the great & un-named Assassin. An Assassin should never have a reputation or be known.

TESO - - Multiplayer: "M'aiq does not know this word. You wish others to help you in your quest? Coward! If you must, search for the Argonian Im-Leet, or perhaps the big Nord, Rolf the Uber. They will certainly wish to join you." M'aiq the Liar.

"Va Khaj Dar - Khajiity's united? M'aiq will join!" M'aiq the Liar

What makes a good assasin!?

ONE MUST NEVER HESITATE!

The second an opportunity is seen, it must be seized!

Those that cannot do this, should NOT take up the guise of an assassin. The Alik'r are experts of subterfuge and assassination. I pray are enemies are prepared for this fact.

Isn't that just the most glorious thing!? Doesn't it just make you tingle with excitement of the potential that the unknown holds?

I just hope there isn't to many really *awkward* Orc 'assassins' in heavy armor wielding giant clubs that have specialized in Illusion.

I see all these people saying be sneaky and such.
But an Assassin does not need to be..

There is one thing that makes a good Assassin.
They kill their target.

What makes a good assassin? Well you need to be able to kill the target in whatever manner your employer wishes.

I am the shadow within a shadow. I will accept any job; however I will execute the target, or maybe even the person who hired me; it all depends on who has the most gold to give. Even then you can not trust me to let you walk away with your life.

What makes a good assassin?

The two key parts are patience and silence. After mastering both parts, then comes to the topic of weaponry. Bows are most popular due to the fact that you can be quite a distance away to strike someone down. One-hand weapons like swords and daggers are also well you'd just need to be able to sneak up on a person very well in order to get close enough to kill them. And finally the most risky of weapons for assassination is magic, magic can give you away quite quickly so its hard to use in group assassinations (which i assume will be a must in TESO) although i've always used both magic and a bow. The combination of magic and a bow is useful (mainly if you have the spell paralyze) because you can use any form of magic to help with your tactics. It really just depends on the kind of fighting style you'd like to use.
