I'm really curious as I really want to get into role-playing on this site but I don't want to overdo my characters to death at the the same time which I'm afraid I've done to my first character :/ Any role-playing experts or people that have just read tonnes of it that can help me?

You can never overdo them! It adds depth to the character that a line for each section would. Most dedicated RPers will read it anyway, even if it's about a page long. If you really want you can try and limit it to a couple of lines for each section (looks, background, personality, etc.) but the best bio's are usually the medium sized ones, with a massive section for background, personality and looks (in my opinion...). If you need help, (if you didn't already know this) there is a bio template at the top of the character bio section, in the pinned area. After that, just jump into any new RP's that open, or make one yourself! Hope to see you RPing :)

Hey Nevvarine, sorry for the late reply to this!

First of all, welcome to this forum's RP boards! I've read your first character bio, and I'm sure you'll fit right in and have some fun with some of the currently active threads.

Generally, a lot of what may comprise a "good" character bio is subjective to one's opinions and tastes. Different people like different types of stories, characters, writing styles, and so on. Everyone comes from different backgrounds and influences, so they tend to prefer one thing or another. Of course what's most important is that you're comfortable with your own writing, and you like what you've made! And if you aren't, just read it over and revise it as you see fit. If you're uncertain if you like your own bio, you could read over some books or other character bios that you've enjoyed as a slight benchmark. (Though that's not to say you need to copy their style exactly!)

Of course some common things that may help improve one's bio are things like a clean and easy-to-read format, proper grammar and spelling, and reasonable lore compliance. Often bios are improved if the story flows well and ideas connect seamlessly with one another.

And it's fine if you edited the stickied template to suit your own needs! Many of the RPers on the site have added to or removed some parts of that template without any issues. It simply depends on what you'd like to say about your particular character.

I hope this post helped to some degree, but if you'd like additional advice feel free to ask.

Yeah thanks that did help a lot! I've decided to entirely redo my character and focus more on main points in his backstory than having several barely described points. I also want to take a lot more time making it. Anyway thanks for the advice!

Sounds good Nevvarine! Personally what I like to do is have main points in the character bio and keep it concise-- but then detail events and important points out through separate story pieces. This allows for easy expansion of a character's story. Good luck on your revisions!
