Please take my humblest apologies, if there is already a thread like this. I don't mean which one is common among fans. I mean story wise which race has the largest populace?

Well, for one, I'd assume that it's not an elven race, because the time between generations is long.
I'm not sure about the beast races, but I'd assume they live average life spans.
Most of the TES landscapes are harsh and unforgiving, which don't really lend to high populations.

I think it would be the Imperials due to the fact that they're more civilized, they have a large home province, they're human, and it's not as brutal of a place as Morrowind or Skyrim.

I think that human races have much more populace because most of players wants that theirs characters to look like players in a real life. But, not all of them have this custom.

He didn`t mean the highest population in ESO, but in general, according to the lore/history.

Well then, probably elves because they live in Tamriel much longer than humans and they live much longer.

But, because they live longer than the other races they don`t need to reproduce as much as they do. So I`m not sure...

I definitely suspect it's the Imperials. Cyrodiil is both fertile and highly urbanized by Tamriellic standards, so there's going to be a high population density, and above all that it's also on the larger end of provinces. I think the only potential problem is the fact that there's also likely to be quite a lot of non-Imperials there... but there's also quite a few Imperials in most of the other provinces, so I think it balances out. Next would probably be the pre-Red Year Dunmer, since Morrowind's also large and volcanic soil tends to be very fertile, making up for Vvardenfell (itself probably contributing a decent amount after the Temple opened it up for settlement) and the likely little-populated swamps.

(I doubt reproduction rate is going to matter much in this situation - Tamriel has been at pretty much the same technological level for at least four millenia, and nearly a thousand years since the last major depopulation event from the Knahaten Flu - several generations even for most elves - so pretty much everyone will have probably hit the limit of what their land can support.)

Count only the happy hours.

I'd say Imperials or Bretons, as they are the most civilized humans. We Elves are completely out of the question. Long lifespans, long gestation periods, and relatively late sexual maturity all add up to low populations. War casualties don't help.

Also the fact that Altmer throw out some children because they are not pure.

The notion that Altmer practice infanticide was most likely created by enemies of the Dominion to be used as propaganda. There is little (if any) solid evidence to support such a claim.

If it is practiced, it's probably the Thalmor of the Fourth Era who are doing it. The Dominion of the Second Era would be unlikely to do such a thing.

However, they are known for practicing Eugenics, albeit not as much as the 4th era AD.

That's probably true. Summerset is still shrouded in mystery, so even eugenics could be false info, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true. I suppose we'll find out after release.

Still, eugenics is one thing; infanticide is another. Besides, eugenics is most likely practiced almost solely among the nobility; lower-class citizens (assuming Altmeri society is structured in such a way that there is a "lower class") probably couldn't care less if they are "pure" or not.

It definitely ain't one of the Mer. Nor do I think of any beast races, so I'd go with humans as well. Nords are out of question, their adulthood rites will most likely thin out the population (not to mention the harsh climates). Imperials or bretons, possible. But what about redguard?
