So yeah, as the title says - what's the reason you started roleplaying? Video game, friends, whatever, just name them.

Me? I started after having played tons of games in the fantasy genre, and I also had a solid Dungeons & Dragons group going. To add to the stereotypical image, both me and my girlfriend enjoy to read fantasy novels.

Yours?

A friend from out of town introduced Warhammer 40K to me. I had only one close friend at the time so I was looking for sensible people to hang out with. (Most of the guys in my tiny town were retarded jocks or alcoholics.) So I brought WH to my town by introducing it to a guy in my class whom I knew was into RPGs and we became friends, getting some of his RPG brood to pick up Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Blood Bowl too. Then I just joined their group. At that time 4th edition Drakar & Demoner was the shit.
I've been at it for about 20 years now.

I have been rolplaying ever since i was little. be it playing 'soldiers' (roman, or Modern) or re-enacting our favorite scenes from the lord of the rings(I was always Arogon or Eomer) or StarWars outside.
later My best friend, who introduced me to TES, also introduced me to warhammer 40k where I started my IG army (hence my username)
I've never been much of a (video)gamer until the Xbox 360 came out, Morrowind being 1 of the only games I've played before.

I started with forum-roleplay when I was...18? Something like that. When I started my first MMO (LotrO) I simply assumed RP was something everybody did, without exception. What else would you have such an immersive world for? Yeah, blissful are the ignorant.

I guess I'm just always busy with creating stuff, and I like to write. RP was the natural way to go. I think nowadays I'm a bit more of a PvE'er, but that's generally because of the quality of RP becoming less and less my cup of tea - I get annoyed at stupidity easily, like I can get annoyed with high horses and lorelolling. When I RP now, I make sure to do it with friends I've known for a longer time.

I've grown into a bitter, mean elitist. All hide somewhere safe.

I love writing and have always tried to seek out mediums to explore it with other people and naturally role playing game as a natural way to do that. I started a D&D group in high school and those of us that did not move after graduating continued and then added a few people we met a long the way think we have a bout 7 people now who get together every sunday for the past couple of years since highschool and now through college lol. MMO's to me have been a genre that well have the capability to explore that with so many more people and on such a larger scale but never have really focused enough on it and the communities are hit and miss you either find people to rigid and serious that they are not much for or you find sirpwnsalotnoobshots who is well just a joke. This game and the community on this site if I was not sold on buying an MMO based off one of my favorite fantasy games and worlds I am now just by the way people around here seem to really be interested in Role Playing and just having fun with the depth and creativity which is promising cause I really have wanted a game that feels like that and this is shaping up to be it. Anyways just always had a nack for it and anyone else who does I can't wait to see you online whether ally or foe.

For me it's a case of having done it before on chats and the likes, without even knowing it was a thing as such. A few years into my WoW-time, I moved IRL and got closer to some people who also played WoW, but on a different server. I decided to roll a character there, and it so happened to be a roleplay server - and that's pretty much where I realized how much of a thing it is. I decided to try and find a roleplay guild that would mentor me, and after doing the most lore-incorrect and flat-out horrible interview ever known to man, I was somehow accepted. About six months later I felt confident enough to move my warlock over and start on a second character, which would become my main eventually.

These days I keep reminding myself that everyone can learn, and have successfully helped some people have a good start to their roleplay career :D

I was role-playing as a kid with Cops and robbers and the like, but I guess it was the Hobbit that my dad read me as a kid that got me started. After that it was Choose your own adventures and the Lone Wolf series of books. At around 13 I got into my first D&D game, which I had to hide from my parents. It was the late 80's and the religious extremists were raging about D&D being Satanic. There were other games as I got older, but I still play in several D&D and other RPG's on Fridays. I picked up computer and console gaming along the way and now am making my way into forum gaming for the first time. MMO's are hit and miss with me. Most in my opinion are not RPG's, but there are a few exceptions. Hopefully TESO will be one of the hits.

well due to my work i do alot of character creation (i study games design) so immersing my self in a world whether its mine or someone elses is something i do daily. with that in mind i have never role played before and this forum was the first place i started. i have done Acting for most of my life also so would say i have a pretty good idea of improv acting.
I decided to role play for elder scrolls when i heard it was becoming an mmo. I role play for the single play games so why not the multiplayer. the games lore was something i would study daily also (though i can't do that any more due to Uni) so i had a good idea where to start with the games lore ^-^

overall i have really enjoyed roleplaying with you on these forums and can't wait to roleplay on the game.

Roleplaying started when I was a kid, from there on it morphed into into tabletop rpgs then onto my own created stuff. When 3D MMOs came out the RP transferred to them. I roleplayed mainly with World of Warcraft but have played many online games besides wow - such as FFXI, Everquest 2. It was always an escape from reality - to be truly creative with already great ideas and developed worlds - the content was there so why not?

I love Argonian and I haven't roleplayed in the TES world yet as I have recently discovered TES and have been playing Skyrim for endless hours - before that it was Oblivion. I haven't played Arena or Daggerfall etc. The lore in the game has hooked me and I have been satisfied with exploring everything and getting to know the world and its fanbase. So someday I may jump into the rp.

I never role played before I came to this site to be honest. I had played RPG games before, but I didn't really know that much about the lore so I never participated in that aspect. That is the opposite for TES though, I have read a lot about the lore. The single player games really piqued my interest in it. Once I signed up here I read through some posts in the role playing section and it sounded like something fun to do, something to satisfy my ESO crave until the game comes out. It is a lot of fun and I will probably keep RPing when the game comes out.
