Why Bretons?

At nearly 450 people, the Bretons are the third most common race on this site, and I'm seeing Bretons at or near the top of the list on multiple polls across the web.

The prevalence of Nords and Dunmer I can understand, since Skyrim was all about Nords and the Dunmer had Morrowind (and, I have to admit, Dunmer are just cool).

But why so many Bretons?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can't imagine that Daggerfall had such a profound impact so many people, especially considering that many people only got into TES with the latter games.

What is it, then? The racial abilities? I'm told the absorb magic skill is good, but is that the only reason? Is it Breton's reputation as the clever, cultured "smart guys", good mages but not elven?

In short, what made you decide to be a Breton?

Not Set
I used to only play as an Argonian. One day I had decided to make a play-through as a Breton and realized that, for the skills I used most often, it fit me better than that of the Argonian. I just became somewhat obsessed in Bretons since.

Bretons are

-human
-generic

Such draws the Attention of all undecided. Also, most People want the guy they are Controlling in a game as their char to resemble themselves to some Point... and the most People playing TESO will be generic humans, I guess.

Also, Ninja Breton. From zee Trailer.

The Breton in the cinematic trailer really got people to think about playing as a breton plus there slight bonuses to magic made them useful with spells. Bretons also look like humans and are the only race in the daggerfalll covenant with spell bonuses. So if you want to be in the DC but also want to be able to use spells then you might select breton because of that.

Bretons are probably popular because of their racials which are pretty nice (granted other races do have a good mix).

I want to be a Breton because I want to be in the daggerfalll covenant, and I wish to play as a Templar.

Not only are the Bretons overlooked by the developers, they are thus overlooked by other players becsuse they are a "generic" (aka boring) race. However, this is not true. Just because they don't excel at anything doesn't mean yhey suck, it means they're average.

It means that you can excel at anything you want because they can excel with anything. Its not like the Dunmer where its best excelling with magic because its their specialty. With the Bretons, they can specialize with a lot more because they are hybrids of 2 races specializing in different things.

Man Bretons are so boring

In an uncreative mind, maybe so. However some of the most interesting people can make something out of nothing. Quite an interesting challange, in my opinion.

Yes, you can make something interesting out of anything. Even the boring race of Bretons.

They're the closest thing to your standard Medieval Fantasy Human with castles and jerk noblemen.
