I really don't get it to tell the truth, if I wanted the full experience I'd have to pay $80 + $15 per month, wth is going through their minds? TESO is not worth that I'm sorry when I can get Dark Souls 2 and Titanfall both for $120. I was more expecting TESO to just have a subscription cost or maybe a very small initial cost. This is outrageous though, i'm sure it will be a good game but $110 for 3 months of playing it is a bit ludicrous if you ask me.

An opinion you're entitled to! (Which is neither true nor false, but could be considered true with regards to your feelings and thoughts for you and you alone. Opinion power!)

A shame you won't be there to enjoy TESO with a lot of us.

Regardless, enjoy your other games and so on.

(Also, if you genuinely don't understand why it is the way it is, read up on various different business practices; you may find the answer you seek. Short answer, its what works for them as employees within the gaming industry.)

Welcome to the MMO world.
Most major MMOs have launched with the same business model (notable exceptions exist). It's been the genre standard for at least ten years. It will continue as long as publishers keep making the most money this way.

Neither DS2 nor Titanfall are MMOs.

This is the best way to do it I think. I feel confident in getting a quality product if im paying for it.

No game is worth the price of 2+ lol. I was extremely excited for TESO until I heard that it had a initial cost also. That is straight up retarded and I have seen VERY few MMOs try this. Guild Wars 2 didn't, and many others didn't. The only one that I can think of that even dared try this is WoW which, WoW is 10 years old now. Don't use a business model that is a decade old please lol. I have no doubt that this game will be good, but good enough to cost that amount? No, no it is not.

It's not 80 for the standard edition and It's called a sub. Ftp Is terrible If you like that good for you.

People need to stop with this "outdated business model" stuff. The business model works if the game is worth it. A payment model does not become out dated. If you're going to use that logic then mortgages are an outdated payment model and everyone should rent. There is no outdated payment model, there is only consumer choice. Outdated payment model is a farce of a term that has been circulating the internet for way too long created by people who just want stuff for free or are still under the illusion that a free to play game isn't going to cost them money.

I think its a good thing TESO are not caving to the vocal few about the price, as years of terrible games have lower the cost, and raised the expectation of what they game is.

Here is my logic, If I pay $15 a month for a game that is not worth half of that(not saying it is), they have successfully weeded out a large portion of people with attention spans equal to that of a pigeon.
Therefor by default the worth of the game goes up to $15. purely for the more refined player base.

I'm confused... is there a law in each country that specifically states because a game is sub based it should not have an upfront cost for it too? Is there also some rule somewhere that says there cannot be a sub fee and premium to play a race? If ZO is "stupid" or "wrong" or "greedy" for doing this they will fail as a business. This could be the new norm for "premium" gaming.

Have you purchased an AAA MMORPG previously? Its always full box price + monthly fee. Now, you are even comparing the figures of CE edition. If you purchase CE for both Dark Souls 2 & Titanfall, you're not looking at $120, you're looking at $160. The first month comes free for TESO, naturally.

Now, the reason for this is that MMORPGs need to cover the development costs, all other accounts payable and server costs at launch. This is where the boxed price comes in, its the massive return for the money spent in getting the game going, after that the monthly fee is used to cover customer support, further game development and the servers among others. The reason MMO games are in such a hurry to cover their initial costs at launch is simple: How do you think the investors and executives would feel about spending money on further game development if the game hasn't even covered its own costs yet? You guessed, the answer would be no.

I have no problem with this...

Buy Psy CE = Happy, cool Molag Bal Statue and 5 early access.
Every Month payment = Keep update/fix bug/next patch to do better or good balance and last: Plan for next exp.

To all who why ++ > Problem money? Give a easy job! Stop to ask your parents, they did a heavy job after you were born! :D

OR play other free-to-pay mmo...

Have nice day!

it is very simple really, deveolping, making a mmo on this scale with this variation of option and choices and freedom, it take lot of people working on it. so it cost money. so offcourse you gotta pay to buy the game. and you gotta pay to play it pr month.

this is not a cheap, low end mmo they cant relay just in a free to play with a ingame shop to win. they want to do keep producing this high end material in future upgrades/dlc/expantion packs to the game. that takes time and cost money also.

If you want to play a mmo that is free. then go to steam and look for free to play and you can find a few options there. but if you want to play this game. accept the fact that you gotta pay for the game and pay a monthly fee.

My only issue with a subscription fee is that I fall into more of a "casual" gamer category - meaning I'm unable (or unwilling) to consistently put-in significant hours on a game. So, when I have to pay a fixed monthly subscription fee, I feel that I'm wasting money if I don't or can't play often. I would rather pay for the time I actually use - the same way I pay utilities. (Although cable TV is notoriously NOT like this.) This also seems like it would be more "fair" in distributing the operating cost to those who use the service more. (Prices could scale based on hours purchased for heavy users.) This way if I need to take a break from the game for a while, there's no pressure and ZO will still get money from me (eventually). Also, I'm in favor of an up-front cost as I think this should offset the initial development of the game (but not operating costs).
