i think this is a must for RvR games.
else everyone hugs eachother and steamrolls everything instead of actually fighting each other.
and also allows for tanky specs to block tactical chokepoints when outnumbered.

(to avoid ally trolls, this will not work for allies when out of combat)

discuss :)

It definitely should be in the game, but I kind of doubt it will. Majority of MMOs won't spend the extra effort to make it to where only a select number of people can be in an area at one time. It's more realistic, but at the same time will just create a bunch of hardcore PvPers to whine because they can't get their 100 strong force to flood through a breach in a wall at one time.

Why is only for allies even an option? That's just dumb

perhaps you are thinking of the wrong thing here.
Im not talking about Camelot Unchained.

What im talking about is that if you want to get an idea what ESOs PvP will be like. Dont look at the (broken) system of GW2. Much rather look at the system of the original Dark Age of Camelot since a couple of Devs (including matt firor the lead designer) from ESO were working on that game back in the day.

I have a guildie in the beta and he said the collision detection/player collision was fully implemented in all aspects of the game. However there were problems where players were boxing in other players or blocking npcs and such. Many people in the beta don't want it seems. So player collision is in but it could end up being removed. I'm not sure about what will become of collision with npcs and such.

edit: also there is collision detection for spells/bows so if your ally gets in the way your spell will hit your ally but there is no friendly fire. Everyone in the beta wants this scrapped and I believe the devs are working on it. I believe the same thing applies to melee weapons as well.

If anything they should only turn it off for allies when out of combat, or just allies in general if it's turning out to be a problem. Enemy NPC's and players definitely should have collision detection, for both immersion and strategic reasons.

Strategic reasons for sure. If you can walk right through someone, it ALMOST eliminates bottleneck strategies. Sure without collision detection you could still effectively fight a bottleneck but really only as long as you have enough to match enemy numbers (otherwise the enemies who weren't fighting could slip through). Collision detection would allow a smaller number of defenders to possibly hold off quite a few attackers, as well as other strategies I'm too lazy to think of right now.

Fight for something to die for, because living for nothing really isn't worth it.

I agree collision needs too be there when the shield wall goes up through a bottle neck strategy is key for both sides lol

I think it should be there but if it isn't at launch then perhaps in a later patch.

Having played games where it exists and therefore exploitable WILL be taken advantage of

Anyone who thinks ALL players of online games will play it in the spirit it is intended with fair play and sportsmanship are very naive

I personally really like the strategic use of collision detection as it just seems so natural but game developers will take the lesser evil by not including it in games and I expect TESO will be one of them

Irrespective it wont stop me playing the game

Sounds like everyone in beta ought to be better at aiming their arrows and spells, lol...

Kidding! I always hit Lydia when she goes all leeroy jenkins...

I would like to see collisions for all players that are in "combat", including PvE and PvP combat. If you're wandering around a city, you shouldn't be blocked from an NPC because there's a horde of players surrounding them. I'd like to be able to tab through the horde in order to select that NPC to turn in a quest or whatever without having to actually join the dang horde.

But I like the idea of having the collisions because then people would have to take down the tanks in a bottle neck rather than rushing past them to kill the squishies. It's easier to keep aggro from a mob than a player, obviously.
