Any opinions? Do you see TESO taking off and revolutionizing MMOs or dying out after a year of release.

Be honest, i know we are all super hyped right now, but think about the long run in regards to other MMO flops.

Don't compare TESO to WoW, compare it to DaoC.

As far as replacing WoW, I honestly wouldn't get my hopes up.

Nobody can say if ESO will be long lasting. That depends more on the dev approach and post release factors like endgame emphasize and the player base than anything we could base our prognoses on now (being pre-beta).

As long as there will be a reasonable amount of fresh content and/or long lasting concepts like AvA (if AvA prevails) there will be a solid player base ensuring longevity.

ESO should not be compared to WoW. To answer your question, ESO definitely has the ability to replace WoW, but it all comes down to how ZOS executes it and if end game will keep players around or having people quit out of boredom.

Right now TESO’s combat isn’t anything revolutionary it doesn’t seem like it will be better than GW2 which had a great combat system(not talking about classes, the types of abilities themselves and combat mechanics are great). I also really dislike how the characters move really stiff when weapons are drawn.

From what I've read the content sounds very exciting ranging from the questing system to Cyrodiil. I just hope ZOS delivers what they are telling us.

I think the WoW world tournaments are really cool. I would love to see TESO have a world championship for instanced pvp and for AvA. I would have all the best AvA guilds from each faction invited to participate in say like a 5 hour battle in Cyrodiil and the winning faction wins the grand prize.

TESO needs to release when its ready to be released, if they release it too early it will fail. SWTOR released too early and failed, GW2 lacked content and had WvW issues. It’s not dead but not thriving. TESO needs to deliver everything its promised and it will do great.

Beh..these topics..WoW vs so and so...WoW is not going anywhere really, It fought off a lot of competitors in its long run. It may not have a strong base anymore, but I'm sure their fan's will remain. ES has a strong fan base as well, but fact this title is becoming a MMO may turn away some of them away.

Beta isn't out yet to even compare ESO to anything right now, and yes I do agree; don't compare it to an MMO that is completely different in style of game play.

"I thiink it's probably the best MMO ever". This guy should be wearing a helmet, and the last thing he should be doing is sharing his opinion. You should not have posted this absolute joke of a video. Can we please close this thread now?

Also, please change your race, I don't want to be the same race as you.

Although they are both mmorpgs TESO and WoW are very different. I have played WoW on and off again since 07. I have never really tried other mmorpgs, but TESO definitely excites me. I have always wanted to play an elder scrolls game with my friends online.

That's what this game will be, the elder scrolls we know and love in an online version. I don't think TESO will replace WoW, there is just such a huge base for that game. There is room for the two to coexist though. Some of the other posters hit it spot on, it will be up to the devs to steadily release content and keep the game engaging. Which I don't think will be a problem, I mean the team has already spent 5+ years working on this project. I doubt Zenimax has spent that much in resources, personnel and time just to have it's game flop after a year.

I want to agree with you Grape I really do and trust me I believe in the game but I have my reserves. I have been bioware fan since Baldurs gate and I thought hey Star wars the old republic and rpg I love but online with friends and that did not turn out well. Though admittedly EA rushed the game out into release so that could be part of it but I always have reserves. Especially considering that with each game dialogue or story driven stuff has had less focus and even certain forms of rpg elements have had less focus. Armor in skyrim and weapons did not have to be repaired you could no longer make weapons the dialogue was much shorter than oblivion or even the text in morrowind by far and just did not go into as much detail. I love the game but some of those trends worry me especially when transitioning to a genre which does not lend it self easily to serious story telling.

Hey it's alright to have reserves about a game. There is no telling if TESO is everything we all expect it to be. Expectations (at least mine) are very high, but expectations alone do not make a game. I feel like this could be the perfect mmo for a lot of people out there, however I am also concerned with some of the things you mentioned. Skyrim did not feel as in depth as Oblivion. The armor repairs were one thing, the removal of some skill trees (unarmed I still miss you) and apart from the main quest, a lot of the other quest lines felt very short compared to Oblivion's counterpart. I didn't play much Morrowind, but I suspect Oblivion was missing some key features from it's predecessor as well.

It's a fine balance to make "ease of life' improvements, while also keeping the immersion intact. It's a slippery slope and you only have to look at wow to see how it ends up. Nothing is hard to do, just tedious and time consuming. Hopefully Firor and his crew keep that in mind.

My expectations are high and I hope the same for the game and think it could be exactly that the best mmo for rpers and a lot of other people out there but we will have to wait and see.

I think the more appropriate way of thinking about the dev's thoughts, we know for a fact they read this forum, they have had several links to it from their social media's sources.

So be constructive and clear with what you would and wouldn't like to see and there is a lot higher chance they will take it into consideration.

On the WoW vs TESO..
Its like comparing cats and dogs, it preference. They have a couple of similarities but are in fact completely different.

Saying teso will be the best game for rprs is crap the world is not 100% explorable and faction/race locks kills any chance this had to being the best rp game. putting zones in an elderscrolls game is the ultimate insult to every elderscrolls fan....then there is the first person view which is laughable..but understandable. They want this to be the world of tamriel..open it up and make it a world....

I said could not is. Obviously there are problems hence why I have my reserves. I keep hoping to hear they will change that because not being able to go in enemy factions at least for me well not being able to see the whole world is almost game breaking. That is one thing WoW really did right and there have been a few others that did it right. Being able to see the whole world is important.

Honestly, something that I've not seen many MMORPGs follow is having an open world with very little to no loading screens. If nobody remembers, the only time you ever have a loading screen in WoW is when going in a dungeon or crossing continents. At least.. that was vanilla WoW when I played it. One major attraction to Skyrim or any of TES games is that the world was very open. . while sure you had a small minor loading screen on entering a house, if you have a good system it works fine. Still, limited loading screens = more immersion which = better RPG in general.

As far as the MMO aspect goes, you need simply an amazing mix of solo to multiplayer experiences. Stuff like Warhammer Online's public quests were an amazing idea imo. That game failed in that scenarios is how you lvld fast in a game which the last 10 levels felt like an age merely because all you did was repetitious action in a scenario. . So, as long as it's a smooth leveling system with little to no grinding, and a good multiplayer to solo mechanic. . I'm sure it will succeed on the MMO standpoint.

The point at which I think this game will get a lot of hate. . and when I say a lot I mean a hell of a lot, is its TES fanboys. More than likely if the game doesn't fit up with EVERY SINGLE THING that todd howard envisioned as "The Elder Scrolls" then they will just hate on the game.

However, my opinion still stands. . as long as there aren't a butt ton of loading screens everywhere I go, I along with many others probably, will become very immersed in this game. Which, if you think about how much time you invest in any MMO to max level and then do stuff at max level, you REALLY want that high level of immersion.
