XP Leaching or Agro Trolling

I understand that every one involved in a fight, gets XP for the fight, and I am all for that, as long as they actually participate in the fight.

So what is to stop Agro Trolls from running up swatting a bad guy, running off and leaving the other people to clean up his/her mess? Thus Leaching full xp for the kill and leaving other people to do all the work?

On other MMO's I have found it VERY annoying when me and/or my party are prepping for a battle and some other random Zerger runs through and starts off the fight before we are ready, agros every monster on the map, drags them back to us, and leaves or hides. Effectively doing nothing more than pissing off other players by starting off a fight before any one was ready, and getting everyone killed, then leaving.

(DEATH PENALTY FOR LEROY JINKENS and any scum like him!)

This works fine in Guild Wars 2 as it's a similar loot system. I've never actually seen someone tag and just stand there. They'd rather help kill the mob quicker so they can get their loot quicker. Worst case scenario someone is fighting a separate mob nearby and tags yours for loot rights- but guess what, you do can do the same thing! That's not so say you won't get a very isolated incidence of this being abused, but I highly doubt it will be a systemic issue.

Well, at first the aggro system will not work like in other games where you have an aggro range. If you attack someone in a big room all enemys in that room will attack you as well. So it won't be possible to randomly pull something, unless you go around the next corner.

On the other hand that system worked quite well in gw2 for example. You had to attack the monster a few times before you could actually gain experience from them, so the player could not tickle the enemy once and then vanish and gain full xp. If it was an event, there were different ranks given, based on the participation of each individual player, and those events were the ones where bigger hostile groups appeared.

And sadly enough though, you can't be 100% that there won't be such a problem. I totally understand that issue and i guess everyone has suffered from it, but that is the flaw of an online game. Just hope they'll work it out well.

And on the same topic (sort of), On DDO I have played a Healer that ONLY Heals, all my spell points went to Healing and Buffing party members and I did not attack any enemies. I have been called "invaluable" in fights before, and have been referred to as the only reason the party won the quest (because I kept everyone alive).. So if I decide to make a Heal only, support toon, will I get XP for helping all the players in a fight with out actually attacking the enemy myself?

I hope and I guess so and I can relate to that, since my main in every MMO is usually a healer as well :), but sadly we don't have any information on such a detail yet and the situation in gw2 was that there were no healers, so i personally can't say anything related to that, but i trust zenimax that they will implement something like that in an open world without a group.

I have been watching the Developer Interview Videos (which I probably should have watched them all before I asked, and am probably making a mistake by posting this before I finished watching them all, sorry). Apparently they have a "Finesse" system that gives you perks and XP based on how well you implement the game mechanics. That is to say, if you use block when you should for maximum effect, or swing when you should to do the most damage, or lay down a spell in the right place at the right time, etc, you get Boosts to XP, Loot, and other bonuses? (IF I understood them correctly). So the one swing leach would get no to little xp for just pretending to be in the fight, while the people who were actually doing stuff to participate in the fight would.. And again, this is if I understood correctly..... So maybe this answers my Healer question too, after all throwing down a heal spell just in time to save every one takes finesse.. lets just hope that is the way it works... :)

Oh you are right, I totally forgot about that stuff. My bad, sorry. But yeah that game mechanic is definitely promising Smiling
