READ BEFORE VOTING PLEASE!!!

So I've pretty much decided that I'm going DC. It's enough of a change where I'll feel welcome and not feel like I'm becoming Santa's next little pointy-ear helper. However my problem is I don't know which DC race I want to be! I'm pretty sure I don't want to be a Breton, if not for anything else than to not be called out that I picked it because of the cinematic, but I will go Breton if it's picked. The thing is though I like the direction that either Breton, Redguard, or an Orc will take me as it'll be a new experience either way, but I cannot decide which one to go with!

So I'm letting you decide in the poll. I'll choose on Wednesday the 30th based on the poll results. I will be playing regardless of race in a pretty Scout/Myrmidon-like way. I'll try to focus my skills around light armor, speed, 1h sword, and defense with a shield. So please vote in a way that you think will benefit me and all of DC the most. Thanks and wish me luck!

See, there's already indecision, lol. My mind has been racing from one race to another. Can't wait to see what the numbers are tomorrow after I get off of work. Later all.

I was in the exact same situation and finally decided on Redguard a few days ago. Goodluck!

I recommend Redguard. Either would be fine. However, since you are looking at the races from a pragmatic viewpoint and not from a lore perspective, you have to look at each races stat perks in their history of TES. Taking example from Skyrim (the most recent release and the one whose leveling system will probably most resemble ESO's) neither the Redguard nor the Orc are specifically geared towards that kind of class. You have a lot of pros and cons with either race. Both have bonuses to one-handed and block; however, Redguard has a better bonus in one-handed as well as an equal footing in smithing as Orcs. The thing that really puts them over the edge is their bonus to archery, a very beneficial skill to scouts. The only way I see you leaning towards Orcs would be for aesthetic and/or lore reasons.

Orcs are elves, too, known as Orsimer in TES Lore. Every faction has an elf of sorts in it.

A strong arm to slay the weak.

An iron heart that knows no fear.

And a foul mouth to boast about it!

Such are the virtues of the pact!

All hail Vehk and his Buoyant Armigers!

Orcs are the only race of Mer to refer to themselves as their 'nickname' rather than their Mer name on a regular basis. Most Mer you meet that are High, Wood, or Dark explicitly refer to themselves as Alt, Bos, and Dunmer, but playing Skyrim and Oblivion (and also Morrowind to an extent), most Orcs refer to themselves as Orcs and not Orsimer.

Yes, they technically are a race of Mer, but to those not that fluent in TES Lore would never think of an Orc as a Mer, and more like a Beast, nor do the Orcs usually ICly make the Mer distinction anyway.

Buy remember these words, OP. "No one bests an orc!" There are too few Orcs. BUT keep in mind this is the character you will be and you cannot change their race further down the road, whichever race you feel better suits the avatar you will be looking at for the entire length of that character's life. But personaly I'd choose Orc over Redgaurd any day of the week.

Just curious, what do you yall think will make the orcs unique and what skills will they have that stand above the rest? Honestly I think they should be the clear favprite in Heavy Armor and two handed, only would make since that the class with the most size, largest muscle tone, and grittiest past take the cake there. Although seems like there may be a different impression to every one else.
Also are the Khajitt the fastest running class in teso, will it matter? Cause if they are I might make a switch if it is a large enough difference.

I think they are going to weaken the racial abilities of each race, because some of the abilities are pretty powerful for a mmo.

That makes since and is probably the smarter thing to do on their part but its still kinda gay that anyone can just do anything with no class difference, its like saying Oregon could change philosophy and zone run with the same success Alabama does and Vice-Versa.

Actually I'm looking for both a pragmatic and lore perspective. I don't care much for racials though as I'm not that much of a min/maxer. I know none of the DC classes will be specifically geared for my play style, which is why I'm not being too picky and letting the tesof community choose for me. I can write my own back story regardless of race though.

Actually I'm not a big fan of Scimitars. I mean, they're pretty cool, but I cannot see the the play style I'm aiming for using one. :3

Technically yes. But I actually have no problems with Elves, I was just being a smart alick. AD just does not appeal to me at all though.

While Orc's are usually huge opponents, most use medium armor (or none in the case of the Berserkers who go into battle shirtless) and a axe/sword/duel wield. Most Orc's would rather be on the offensive then on the defensive so few can be found in heavy armor and a shield. But then again they are the "combat" race of DC so they'll probably have perks for Heavy Armor...if races have perks at all that is.

I'm looking more at speed than strength for my play style though strength will be somewhat of a necessity as well. :3
